Regina Honu

Regina Honu is a Ghanaian social entrepreneur and software developer, renowned as the founder of Soronko Solutions, one of Ghana’s prime software development firms.

Elevated in Ghana’s capital, Accra, Regina’s academic journey carried her through the corridors of Holy Child High School in Cape Coast, culminating in her alma mater, Ashesi University, where she was a proud member of the 2005 class.

Her passion for technology and empowerment propelled her to establish Soronko Academy in 2017, marking it as West Africa’s pioneering institution dedicated to coding and Human-centered design for children and young adults. The academy emerged from the roots of the Soronko foundation, which Regina initiated in 2012. With a mission to bridge the gender chasm in technology, the academy harbors special emphasis on uplifting young women, equipping them with pivotal technical and interpersonal skills. By 2021, this dynamic initiative celebrated the milestone of training over 20,000 women and girls.

But Regina’s technological crusade didn’t stop there. She spearheaded the “Tech Needs Girls Ghana” movement, a clarion call advocating for the inclusion of more Ghanaian girls in technology-oriented studies, especially coding. This movement, in tandem with Soronko Academy, has triumphantly tutored over 3,500 girls across Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Her visionary efforts haven’t gone unnoticed on the global stage. CNN spotlighted her as one of the 12 women providing inspiration in STEM. Media outles such as BBC, Deutsche Welle, Aljazeera, and even The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s blog have celebrated her journey.

Additionally, Regina’s compassion extends beyond technology. On World Autism Day 2018, she joined forces with Autism Ambassadors of Ghana, championing an awareness session. This collaboration introduced the Autism Aid App, a beacon for families with autistic children, offering expert guidance on care.

From software development to pioneering education and advocating for inclusivity, Regina Honu stands as a symbol of empowerment and innovation in West Africa’s technological landscape.
